Henry Trout is a brilliant boy, but his ability to see the world as something other than ingredients and inner workings overshadows any shred of creativity and imagination. When the school year ends and the summer begins, Henry is horribly disappointed to find himself under the care of his art collecting Uncle Lester for the first few weeks. Lester's hidden cottage in the woods is surrounded by a lush landscape, and is filled to the brim with art, books, and mysteries. Lester's house is not what it seems: the walls change colors, the piano makes the plants dance when played, and a shining golden book in the massive library unlocks doors, secrets, and Henry's imagination.
